Chauvin's left boot resting on what Abraham Lincoln called "the better angels of our nature" in his first Inaugural Address (1861). In time and spirit far removed from Donald Trump's invocation of "American carnage" in his first Inaugural Address. The "Jacob's Ladder" representing what an unnamed WIKIPEDIA entrant memorably wrote: "the ladder is the human soul and the angels are God's logoi, pulling the soul up in distress and descending in compassion."
